Plumping your cushions.

When you purchased your new furniture your design consultant will have given you instructions as to how to care for the particular seat and back interiors that you chose. Here is the best way to take care of them so that they stay looking good and last longer.

Both feather and fibre seat and back interiors can be plumped by shaking vigorously. holding the zip panels and patting into shape. At the same time they should be reversed over and swapped end to end on sofa. Under normal circumstances this should be done at least twice a week. To aerate the interiors further, unzip the covers before plumping.

Feather interiors:

To keep your seat and back interiors plumped and feeling generous: regularly shake and plump your cushions-ideally as a daily routine. Turn them as you plump them so that the feathers inside are aerated and don’t clump together. Our covers feature a cambric casing to stop stray feathers escaping. (Over time you may notice the odd single feather escape however which is quite normal). The same maintenance also apply to your scatter cushions.

Fibre interiors:

Our fibre interiors have a similar rounded plumped feel to feather but tend to hold their shape for longer. However it is imperative that you also maintain these interiors. Shake and plump these interiors in the same way as the feather interiors. By regularly doing this your fibre interiors will hold their shape and retain that sink in relaxed feel that is their hallmark.

Foamcore seat interiors:

This is perhaps the easiest interior to maintain simply because they do not require any plumping. Turning the cushions and swapping place with the other cushion if on a sofa will regulate the wear ( if your sofa is patterned or velvet you will notice there will be a correct and incorrect placement of the cushions but do try swapping occasionally as detailed previously)

Other care:

Regular vacuuming will keep your furniture free of dust and debris that can harm the fabric of your furniture over time. Using an upholstery tool and or soft brush on your vacuum cleaner, gently vacuum your furniture taking time to clean under the cushions to ensure the undercloth is also kept clean and free of debris.

Cushion covers:

Seat and back interiors are zipped for easy removal for cleaning if necessary. Scatter cushions are also zipped.

Armcaps:

Armcaps are extremely useful to help prevent wear and tear on the arms of your furniture. Our armcaps are tailored to fit perfectly on the model of your choice. They are held in place with fine metal pins. If these are unsuitable to use in your home they can be removed.

Fabric and leather warranty:

If you have taken fabric or leather warranty on your new Delcor furniture you will have been given literature at the point of sale. If you need to know any more information please contact us at sales@delcor.co.uk and we will be able to tell you what cover you have for your order. We will also give you the contact details for the warranty company. In the event of a spillage or accident please contact the warranty company at once. They will advise you what to do next. Do not attempt to clean the furniture yourself as this may invalidate your cover.

Specialist cleaning:

We advise that you use a reputable, professional cleaning company to clean your upholstery, especially for difficult marks and stains. Having your furniture dry cleaned in site at least once a year will prevent soiling. We recommend that all items of furniture are cleaned at the same time to prevent a colour variation between cleaned and uncleaned parts.

Leather care:

Regular vacuuming is also advised for your leather upholstery to remove dust and debris. To gently clean your upholstered leather furniture dampen a clean dry cloth and wring out any excess liquid leaving the cloth almost dry. To avoid leaving marks, moisten the entire surface evenly and lightly. Allow to dry naturally-never apply direct heat to your leather furniture. Using a gentle leather care cream periodically will also ensure your leather furniture will remain supple. Always use the leather conditioner cream recommended by your Delcor design consultant. Our specialist leather creams are available to purchase from Delcor.

Legs and feet and finials:

To care for your furniture’s wooden legs and finals simply keep clean with a damp clean cloth, then polish with a dry clean cloth. Never use chemicals or abrasive products on the wooden legs/feet/finals or castors.

Furniture placement in your room:

Take care that furniture is not permanently in direct sunshine. Unfortunately no fabric can withstand constant sunlight without fading or discolouration. Consider using a throw or drawing the curtains when you are not using the room or if you cannot move the furniture.

Take care also that your furniture is not to close to radiators or other direct heat sources. Not only can these discolour or damage your upholstered furniture it will also stop heat travelling away from the heat source into your room.

Pets and your furniture:

Our four legged friends are important members of the family, but may not contribute to taking care of your new furniture! We have a selection of pet friendly fabrics that are more resistant to wear and tear than some standard fabrics. They are often extremely hard wearing and washable. Your design consultant will be happy to help you with these fabrics. Regular vacuuming is vital whichever fabric you decide on. If your pet is used to relaxing on your furniture and you are concerned with wear and tear, why not try a washable throw that tones beautifully with your decor?
